The Nature journal Eye, Volume 18, Issue 11 (November 2004) had a superb feature issue on the optic nerve (highly recommended). In particular, I enjoyed the article by Reeves and Taylor which gives a wonderful account on the history of ideas on the optic nerve.

Optic Nerve is very important part of human eye, The main role of this nerve is to send the visual information to brain which taken it from retina. It collect all information which we see and known as embryologically part of nerve system.
